From November 4 to November 11, 2014, the Theatre de la Ville presented the first of the three shows conceived by Romeo Castellucci within the framework of the Autumn Festival in Paris: Go down, Moses. In the program for the show Castellucci wrote: “It is not about the history of Moses. He is not present as a character.”
This claim is at once both true and false. Yes, Moses’ life does not provide the plot for the show, but from a plastic bag in this mobile dumpster, contemporary furniture of our big cities, there arises a vagitus–a call of the precocious voice.
