As with maternal primal relationships, the analyst could also be asked to respond to a need, and his cabinet, the analyst’s cabinet, might stand as the place to meet that request. At the other end of the line, on the analyst side, listening leaves an empty place where the need could, if necessary, be uttered as a demand.

—Hello Narcisso.
—Well, I am feeling suicidal...
—Well, let me wake up. I’m coming to the other room……
—Yes, you are sleeping with another man.
—An Other man?
